Just The FAQs

Q. How long does it take to get my order?

A. Once the order is made I start on the order. If payment is on paypal and has cleared I usually can ship out within 3-4 business days, sometimes sooner. If payment is being mailed, I ship orders as soon as payment is received. All orders go 2-3 day priority mail with confirmation of delivery added for tracking purposes. You may request insurance coverage if you wish for an extra $2.50. Orders over $75 will automatically have insurance as part of the shipping cost.

Q. What is the difference between the panel afghans and the oval and round afghan looms?

A. I have two styles of looms that will make afghans, but they each give you a different look. I will describe them both to you and you can decide what you which one will work best for your project. The oval and round afghan looms are done with a e-wrap style going from peg to peg. It comes in a 1/2 inch gauge spacing or a 3/4 inch gauge spacing which is from center of peg to center of the next peg. This gives you a tight, close, and thin weave and uses fine yarns better. The finished look gives you a panel up to about 55-60 inches wide that has vertical lines down the panel like a knitted stitch. The back side of the panel has horizontal lines across. It is similar to like a receiving blanket or flannel blanket thickness. The afghan panel loom comes in a straight 36 inch, or our new S-loom style that makes up 3 different sizes, a 36",48" or a 60" wide panel. The wrap is a figure 8 wrap between two rows and then you pick off into a center slot from both rows of pegs. The finished panel looks identical on both sides. It is a double thick panel with a looser, thicker weave. It has the vertical knitting strips down each side. This is like a thick wrap or lap blanket and is very warm, and goes much faster than the other afghan because of the thicker, looser weave. I hope that helps with your decision. Cindy Clyde

Q. Is MDF board dangerous?

A. NO! All MDF board and all plywood are made from pieces of wood or wood dust. They are glued and pressed into usable sheets. The same glue is used in both. The companies that make the boards use special safety measures when using the glues and cutting the boards because all dust can be combustable in large quantities. The finished product is not harmful. You can sometimes sense a smell when the board is first cut or sand fresh, but doesn't last unless you keep it in an airtight container for a long period of time. You might then sense the smell again. Painting your loom can also put a seal coat over it, and will make your loom unique. I have asthma and very sensitive skin. I get blisters and rash on my hands on my arms if I cut wood without long sleeves and gloves. In the 3 years we have been using MDF, I have not had one asthma reaction, or one episode of rash or skin irritation and I don't wear gloves.

Q. I like your loom designs and sizes, can I have my loom cut out in something other than MDF.

A. No. All of my patterns are programmed into a computer and they are cut with a computerized router. A special order can be made to have the looms cut out of Baltic Burch Plywood or something else, but I have found that the extra expense, (usually $40 for the sheet of the other material) is not worth the customers money and The machine can't make the smooth rounded corners on the plywood materials, they splinter off, so we stopped offering this for now.

Q. What is the difference between the oval and round afghan looms.

A. The oval afghan loom is 4 inches wide and 27 1/2 inches long. It is 58 inches around the pegs, but the panel is a bit smaller because it tightens up as it comes off the loom. The round loom is 61 inches around the outside of the pegs. Both looms come in a 3/4 gauge spacing of the pegs and a 1/2 inch gauge spacing of the pegs. Both use chunky and fine yarn, but I have been told by my clients that use both that the 1/2 inch gauge looms allows a better use of the finer yarn because you don't have as much space between the rows. Both looms are done with the e-wrap technique. It makes a thin tight panel that has vertical rows on one side and horizontal lines on the back side. If you sit in a chair to loom and would like a loom to spin on your knees, then you want the round loom. If you want a loom to sit flat on your lap to work back and forth on, then the oval loom is for you.

Q. Do you have any comments from satisfied customers?

A. Yes, here are a few cut directly from their emails: "I'm doing the Happy Loom Dance I got the Preemie Looms today!!!!! I can't believe the speed of the good ole US mail.!! Thank You for the Great service---I LOVE YOUR COMPANY!!" Rose "I just wanted to let you know that I love your looms!! I made a very cute newborn hat and bootie set using your instructions. I use the newborn 1/2 gauge set." Sue "you made me a very happy customer and I would like to point customers in your direction." Janet "My wonderful looms made it safely and I am very happy with them. Thanks for the super fast shipping. They are so well made and I love using your looms." Jane

Q. What sizes of your looms are similar to the knifty knitter 4 piece set?

A. I finally bought a set of KK so that I could make an accurate comparison for my customers. The Blue KK is 5/8 gauge spaced with 24 pegs. It is the same diameter as my preemie 20 peg 3/4 in. gauge or 29 peg 1/2 in. gauge looms. The Red KK is 3/4" gauge with 31 pegs. It is about the same diameter as my Baby loom with 27 peg and a little smaller than my 30 peg child loom. The Green KK is 3/4 gauge and 36 pegs. It is about the same diameter as my 37 peg large youth loom. The Yellow KK is 7/8 gauge and has 41 pegs. It is the same size as my Lg adult 42 peg loom. The KK set is a good starting kit because of it's price, but it is limited to the 4 sizes, and few use the largest yellow one for it is too big for most heads. If you have mastered the KK set, check out the other sizes that I offer as well as the looms with the pegs closer together in the 1/2 inch gauge. They allow the usage of finer yarns and make a tighter weave.

Q. Can you do any other stitch than the e-wrap on the hat looms?

A. Yes! I have finally learned how to do the Purl stitch on the round loom. It makes a reversed stitch that lookes really great. You can alternate it with the rows e-wrap for a reversed band on the hat. You can also do a basket weave look by doing 4-5 pegs e-wrap and then 4-5 pegs of Purl wrap and then back to e-wrap. You may email me for a instruction page with pictures on how to do the Purl stitch wrap at: cindwoodcrafts@msn.com

Q. Do you have any new looms out for 2006? Can you make a round hats and panel scarves on the same loom.

A. New for March 2006, a new set of looms. 6 sizes of the *NEW* Oval/Panel Combo Looms. Narrow enough to do the figure 8 wrap for scarves and stuff, but pegs around the ends for e-wrapping peg to peg for a tube for hats. 6,9,12,15,24,36 inch looms all in 1/2 inch gauge. Same looms will be available in 5/8 inch gauge starting mid April.

Q. When are you open and available to be contacted by phone or email.

A. I am the sole owner and employee of this company and work out of my garage. I appreciate calls coming during the day M-F 8AM-6PM Mountain Standard Time. I will answer my phone on Saturday but am closed Sundays. I do check emails daily-cindwoodcrafts@msn.com
